Ministers to discuss Church's influence
published: Thursday | April 22, 2004

WHEN FAITH Ministers from across Jamaica meet for the Annual National Conference of the International Convention of Faith Ministries (ICFM) in Montego Bay later this month, their focus will be on repositioning the Church to influence the economic direction of Jamaica and developing the necessary leadership skills to undertake their mandate.

The conference will be held at Family Church on the Rock in Reading, Montego Bay, from Monday, April 26 to Wednesday, April 28, under the theme 'Faith For Our Times.' More than 30 local faith ministers, accompanied by their senior and junior leaders, are expected to be in attendance.

STRAYING FROM MISSION

Organisers are excited about the theme of this year's convention and, according to the Rev. Garfield Deans, organising committee's public relations officer, the conference theme complements the mission of ICFM, which is primarily to propagate the message of faith among its ministers.

He said, "We came up with the theme in recognition of the fact that some of us (believers) have walked away from the message of faith.

"We have been stressing ourselves, trying to acquire things by means other than through faith in God. What we will be seeking to accomplish at the conference is to get ourselves back to those precepts that instruct us in the ways of faith." the Rev. Deans added.
