THE EDITOR, Sir:I'VE WRITTEN several letters to the Editor regarding situations in the Jamaica Police Force. I've also written about SSP Reneto Adams for his dedication, his 'loose lip' attitude and his penchant for talking to the news media.
The recent blow-up between SSP Adams and Commissioner Forbes is now at a new low and this should stop. The constant sound bites from both parties only bring the department in disrepute.
What we have here, Mr. Editor is a 'failure to communicate' whatever Commissioner Forbes has to say to SSP Adams should be in writing and this should not be leaked to the press. What I hope SSP Adams and Commis-sioner Forbes realise is that the news can be their best friend and their worst enemy.
The Police Department today in Jamaica with all the negatives and its faults is the bulwark of this fragile democracy we enjoy. The Police Department is the balance between anarchy and freedom regardless of what one wants to believe because never have I seen such lawlessness in a country and I've lived in several.
Minister Phillips doesn't have to micro-manage but he should be more involved in the day to day running to see that the department has what it needs to get the job done.
I am, etc.,
