St Catherine face stern test

LEADERS St. Catherine face a stern test when they travel to the 'lion's den' today for their second-round Super Cup cricket match against defending champions Jamaica Defence Force at Up Park Camp.

The Soldiers boast a fine home record, having not lost outright at Up Park Camp for a long time.

St. Catherine's captain, Renford Pinnock Jnr., admitted his team face an uphill task but said it was ready.

"When you play a good team it's very difficult for you to get an outright win in two days," Pinnock told The Gleaner yesterday, adding they "want to go there (Camp) and play basic cricket, not catch-up cricket."

Pinnock said his team's plan was 'to win at least two sessions out of each day's play'.

"When you win two sessions you are almost in good business," Pinnock said.

MOST CONSISTENT

JDF have been one of the most consistent teams in local cricket over the past few years and coach Layton Brown, a former player himself, is not willing to ease up off their killer-instinct style.

"We are going for an outright victory, we are going to win everything," he said.

"I expect my team to do well (against St. Catherine). We are the defending champions, we are playing good right now. I expect my team to come out on top," Brown said.

In another game of keen interest, Melbourne, with Carlton Baugh Jnr, fresh from his attacking century against St. Elizabeth last week, tackle Kensington.

With the exception of Kensington's Wavell Hinds, Melbourne, loaded with class players, should not find things too difficult against Kensington who were battered and bruised by Manchester in the opening round. Left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, who took nine St. Elizabeth wickets last week, is in top form.
