Robbed at bus stop

THE EDITOR, Sir:
APPROXIMATELY THIRTY minutes have passed since I was robbed at a bus stop in Half-Way Tree. I had not been there for five minutes, as a bus arrived very shortly after I had. Prior to reaching the bus stop I had placed my bus fare in my pocket so as to avoid having to open my bag and go into my purse and inconvenience others behind me who would be waiting to pay.
Upon entering the bus, a man behind me said "Your bag is open, I saw someone steal your purse". I looked at my bag and sure enough it was open and my purse missing, so then I said to the man, "I'm sorry did you say you see the person steal my purse?" to which he replied yes. A man nearby then replied, "So why didn't you say something, a nuff man deh 'bout could a run him down".
Because of one man's cowardice I now have to replace my driver's licence, ABM card and other various forms of identification. It is this experience which displays that we simply aid and abet criminals when we keep silent and let them do as they please, that has led me to wonder at 18 years of age, if there is any hope at all for a better Jamaica.
