Below fashion reporter Alicia Roache takes a look at what is hot for the season. To create a big impact, 'spring' for colours this season.

The spring palette provides shocking shades to suit the taste of almost anyone who likes colours. Pink is obviously a popular choice, but how about giving some of the other colours a chance to shine.

Zap your colour blind spot and try vivid coral, canary yellow and apple green. They are guaranteed to lift the spirits. For those who are a little (or a lot) less brazen, you can still get in the mix with other shades and softer colours such as lavender or turquoise.

As this season's collection of ultra pretty prints demonstrates, sticking to a pattern is not so boring after all. Florals and bright abstract prints that border on the psychedelic are great for getting some attention as you go out to party. The fashion forward can make a statement by mixing prints. Two different florals will get you noticed everywhere you go.

Flouncy and feminine is all the rage. Thanks in part to Kristin Davis

(Charlotte) on the hit TV series Sex and the City, looking like a girl is pretty fun. Full, flirty skirts, and A lines are back with a bounce. Choose from those with multiple layers, ruffles, asymmetrical hemlines and high waistlines. But be careful, skirts that move are loved by the wind so keep an eye on your hemline when you go strolling.

CHOICE THIS SEASON

Gold is the new metal of choice this season. So park those silver sandals, and bring out the gold slingbacks. For shoes with a little less glam, try going 'nude', get the shoe closest to your skin tone. Plus, you no longer have to be a 'goody-two-shoes' to wear sensible shoes. Podiatrists all over must be rejoicing the return of the Mary Jane and the ballerina type shoe. They offer full protection with very little punishment to those pinkies or to the heels. Even sneakers are getting flat. Trainers, such as those worn by martial artists and boxers are among the best fashion buys of the shoe season for both men and women. 'Kicking it' never .
