The development, which has been called Harmony Cove, will be located on 1,400 acres of land on the north coast of Trelawny and according to Mr. Patterson, it will 'offer a vacation experience unparalleled in the Caribbean.'
FIVE-STAR HOTELS
Harmony Cove is currently a property with an extensive beachfront but when the master plan for its development is complete it will boast luxury for the rich and famous.
The plan consists of four five-star hotels, three signature golf courses, a marina, apartments and condominiums, 200 upscale manor houses and 95,000 square feet of meeting place.
"That development will enable us to capture a major spot at the top end of the international tourism market," said Mr. Patterson.
"The promoters of the development have been besieged by developers, hotel chains, investors and designers of golf courses."
Later this week, the Government will be inviting proposals for joint venture partners from Jamaica and the international market. A model of the development will also be on display in the lobby of the Office of the Prime Minister today.
Other developments announced by Mr. Patterson include extensive plans for Port Antonio, Portland. He explained that one of the world's leading architects had been commissioned by a prominent entrepreneur to create a conceptual design for the redevelopment of Titchfield Hill and other areas in the town.
In the meantime, the National Housing Trust (NHT) will also be providing some 23,000 housing solutions under its regular programmes across nine parishes.
According to Mr. Patterson, housing for young professionals had also been included on the NHT's list.
"Several parcels of land are being acquired to provide affordable units for the middle-income market, primarily young professionals in the Corporate Area and other urban centres," the Prime Minister said.
