Tourists will say no!
published: Thursday | April 29, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WAS rather disturbed as a Jamaican living overseas to read your online newspaper that Jamaica will be charging tourists more money to visit the island. Are they nuts? Well, this is it my fellow Jamaicans, tourists will say no, and don't be surprised if our own Jamaicans also say NO! We come home to spend our hard-earned 'foreign dollars' and you want to tax us more?

To the Government: Please find another way to raise money, cut your members of parliament's salaries, it's too high to begin with, and I still don't see what they're doing to help the country anyways.

I'm really fed up with the situation. Do you know how hard it is for us living overseas? We're constantly encouraging folks to go to Jamaica, yet, all you want to do is pry more money away from visitors. All Jamaicans should say NO to visitors tax!

I am, etc.,
