Air J needs to improve
published: Thursday | April 29, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE recently returned to U.K. after another fantastic trip to Jamaica. I have been a regular visitor to the island for over 20 years, and I adore the place. However, this is despite the best efforts of Air Jamaica.

My original flight from Heathrow was cancelled, although the first 50 to check in, (thereafter given the unfortunate title of the 'lucky 50'), were eventually re-routed to Chicago. On arrival, we were bussed to a hotel, only to get up at 3.00 a.m. the following day to catch an Air Jamaica flight to Montego Bay. Airport to airport took approximately 30 hours.

The return flight was only marginally better. Our flight was late leaving MoBay. We then had to wait in the transit lounge at Kingston while they 're-groomed' the aeroplane. At irregular intervals, the Tannoy announced that our departure was delayed, this went on until 2.00 o'clock in the morning.

The depressing thing was, everyone in that lounge, without exception, had a horror story to tell about Air Jamaica. I take no pleasure in writing this letter, but it is important that Air Jamaica realise that their conduct does nothing at all to promote the country. The trans-Atlantic flights are chaotic, and they simply have to be improved.

I am, etc.,

JIM WORDSWORTH
