published: Friday | April 30, 2004

Rules needed on gifts to justice system
THE EDITOR, Sir: I HAVE read a letter from the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. A.J. Nicholson, in The Gleaner of April 24, 2004 purporting to respond to an earlier letter from me criticising the acceptance of a gift of a stand-by generator.

The Gov't's half payment fiasco
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WAS made aware that recently salaries were paid to persons in half and half and that nurses and some teachers did not receive their salaries on time.

Lewd and uncivilised behaviour
THE EDITOR, Sir: RECENTLY TEMPERS have been flying high and much has been said and teenagers, especially 'schoolers', have been accused of having sexual intercourse on some of our local buses.

Hanging should be resumed
THE EDITOR, Sir: KINDLY PERMIT me space in your newspaper to express my views on why I think hanging should be resumed.

Saddened by court's ruling
THE EDITOR, Sir: I REFER to an article captioned 'Unions have no say in layoffs' which appeared in Monday, April 19 publication of The Gleaner.

A step in the right direction
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE ANNOUNCEMENT recently by Senator Norman Grant, Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) president, regarding the establishment of a National Praedial Larceny Secretariat (NPLS) to support the anti-theft legislation before Parliament...

Roadside garages an asset
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE MOTOR Repairers' Association of Jamaica are up in arms with Parish Councils for their tardiness in addressing the problem of roadside garages; or is it because these roadside mechanics are decreasing their profit margins.

An outstanding individual
THE EDITOR, Sir: HAVING JUST read the citation to Dr. Herbert Eldemire C.D. in today's Gleaner (April 22) where he was the prime mover in the founding of so many institutions for the benefit of the health of our nation...

Night noise a nuisance
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WISH to refer to an article in your newspaper of Monday, April 19, 'The commercial, industrial invasion', written by a contributor, who, the byline says, is a retired professor of sociology.
