'Nannyville tense'
published: Friday | April 30, 2004

MAXINE HENRY-WILSON, the Member of Parliament for South Eastern St. Andrew, wants the police to move swiftly to tackle the violence in Nannyville. She told Police Commissioner Francis Forbes in a letter that she did not believe "that rigorous policing has been adopted" to fight the problem in the area.

The MP told the Commissioner that "information available indicates that the situation in Nannyville is being perpetrated by few individuals, who, can be identified."

She added: "My plea is that the police be proactive in ridding the community of the criminal activities so that the law-abiding citizens in Nannyville can live in peace in the community."

Mrs. Henry-Wilson, who is also Minister of Education, told Mr. Forbes that "there is neither any real nor apparent political encumbrance to the police in carrying out their duties to rid the community of this scourge."
