THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WISH to comment on the recent ruling of the DPP with respect to the controversial killing of four persons at Kraal district, northwest Clarendon on May 7, 2003.
Mr. Adams is a fearless crime-fighter who has contributed immensely to the prevention and reduction of crime in the society. His no-nonsense approach has earned him quite a few enemies both within and outside of the police force.
A new paradigm must be employed by the police force if it is to bear efficacious results. For those rejoicing, the DPP's ruling is not a conviction; therefore, put your party on hold, as it may never get off the ground.
FULLY AWARE
Speaking against the background as an ex-Flying Squad detective, I am fully aware of the crime-fighter's dilemma. There is an ambivalent, capricious, and unsettling spirit within the police force that epitomises the varying emotions of a young child. The old adage states: This minute they are with you, the next minute they are not.
This country is infested with dangerous criminal elements, some of which are not acting unilaterally. The complexities enshrined within organised criminal networks in Jamaica are in essence the real inhibiting factor ostracising the police from effecting their duties impartially. I hope that justice will be done to appease public opinion especially with respect to the Braeton shooting where most people tend to see Mr. Adams in a different perspective.
In the aftermath, I do pray that Mr. Adams will be exonerated and I'm in full anticipation of his prompt return to active duty.
I am, etc.,
