Star-studded Melbourne take on Manchester
published: Saturday | May 1, 2004

THIRD ROUND action in Jamaica's premier cricket competition, the Super Cup, continues over the next two days with second-placed Melbourne and joint third-placed Manchester meeting in the weekend's feature match at Melbourne Oval, starting at 10:00 a.m. today.

Although Melbourne have star players such as Marlon Samuels and Carlton Baugh, Jnr. in their line-up, Manchester can still harbour hopes of victory as they have been playing as a team, which is most important.

However, one would have to give Melbourne the edge with Samuels, Baugh, captain Ray Stewart, former National Under-19 captain Llewellyn Meggs, hard-hitting Aubrey Wollaston, Nikita Miller and Leon Bent.

Manchester will be looking to the Sinclair brothers, Matthew and Donovan, Lancelot Warren, Corey Phillips and Domain Sangster to upset, or at least secure first innings honours against the Kangaroos.

Apart from the feature match, most eyes will be on leaders St. Catherine who face the Kingston Tigers at Chedwin Park.

Again, St. Catherine who defeated Westmoreland and pocketed first innings honours against JDF should come out on top over Kingston who are weakened by the absence of their top players.

Jermaine Lawson, with two five-wicket hauls, Tamar Lambert, who scored a double century last week, Dean Morgan and captain Renford Pinnock, both of whom also scored centuries this season, will lead St. Catherine's search for victory.

Kingston will be looking to Nehemiah Perry, Kerry Scott, Raymond Ferguson, Kevin Riley and Simon Jackson to pull off a victory against high-riding St. Catherine.
