DR. MICHAEL Douglas, a Florida-based chiropractor recently donated US$7,000 to the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA).
The doctor handed over the cheque to JAAA president Pat Anderson at the recently held Boys and Girls Championships at the National Stadium.
"There is always a shortage of funds and never a shortage of excuses. Douglas Chiropractics (his centre's name) is proud to donate US$7,000 to show our commitment to the advancement of sports in Jamaica," Dr. Douglas said.
Dr. Douglas said he was also willing to pay his way to the Olympics Games in Greece later this year and be a part of Jamaica's contingent.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Douglas was invited to attend the World Indoor Championships by the JAAA in Barcelona, Spain, an event which he said changed his life. "I enjoy working at the warn-up track. I provide both physical and mental support."
The Florida-based doctor continued by saying: "I am the last person they see before competing and the first one they see after their performance."
Anderson said his association welcomed the donation.
"This will go a far way into our development programme," he said.
Dr. Douglas, who worked with the Jamaica team at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Games, remembered the occasion fondly. "Performing as chiropractic physician for the JAAA and JOA has been truly the greatest honour and accomplishment of my life," he said.
