Heated Bar meeting expected
published: Friday | May 7, 2004

FIREWORKS ARE expected at this Saturday's annual general meeting of the Jamaican Bar Association (JBA), as members of the Advocates' Association of Jamaica will be attending the function to pass a resolution calling on newly-appointed members of the General Legal Council (GLC) to vacate their seats to make way for fresh appointments.

The call is being made in keeping with the grouse which the association has with the Bar Council of the JBA over the non-appointment of representatives from its association on the General Legal Council. On April 17 this year the association held a meeting at which the members voiced disapproval that their association was not represented on the GLC.

A letter from Minister of Justice and Attorney-General A.J. Nicholson on January 20, to the JBA stating that "there is much wisdom in having, on the council, representatives from the regional bodies and the Advocates' Association of Jamaica," is causing a furore.
