Stamp Duty Office woes
published: Friday | May 7, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE a problem with the Stamp Duty Office in downtown Kingston that has been keeping me from enjoying my retirement by holding documents for too long, and in the meanwhile depriving the Government of much-needed revenue, and by extension, inhibiting the quantity of money expended by the Government and the benefit of the velocity of circulation of money which increases taxable income and employment as we must produce our way out of our problems.

Incidentally, all the economic indicators point to a glorious future for this country and those of its people who are willing to pull their weight. Highway 2000, commitment of vast investments in tourism and bauxite and controlled casino gambling among other enterprises on the horizon buttressed by a growing high powered and innovative members in our society, relatively stable exchange rate, strong foreign currency reserves and a lowering of interest rates with low rates for targeted producers are some of the seeds of the glorious future. I cannot but remind us that we are blessed with a long list of great men on both sides of the political divide.

I am, etc.,

OWEN S. CROSBIE
