BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AP):
FAST BOWLER Jermaine Lawson has been given the chance to try for an international comeback in two warm-up cricket matches for West Indies representative teams against the touring Bangladeshis later this month.
The 22-year-old from Jamaica was chosen in two squads named by the West Indies selectors yesterday. The one-day team tackles Bangladesh on May 12 in St. Vincent while the three-day team participates in a first-class match against the tourists on May 22-24.
Bangladesh's first tour of the Caribbean includes three one-day internationals, beginning on May 15 in St. Vincent, and two Tests in St. Lucia (May 28-June 1) and Jamaica (June 4-8).
Lawson returned from a back injury earlier this season in two practice matches against the touring Englishmen. The pacer has also successfully completed rehabilitation work on his action after he had been reported for a suspect action following last year's home series against Australia.
He took a hat-trick and a seven-wicket haul in that series and has taken 29 wickets in seven Test matches.
Lawson's fellow Jamaican, Wavell Hinds, is also included after recovering from a groin injury which ended his participation on the West Indies' tour of South Africa last February. The 27-year-old left-handed batsman also missed the entire regional first-class season and the recently concluded international series against England.
Hinds is the oldest player picked in the two sides, which are made up of young talent from around the region.
The one-day team is captained by Denesh Ramdin, who led the West Indies under-19s to the Youth World Cup final in Bangladesh earlier this year.
Antiguan Sylvester Joseph, recalled to the West Indies one-day side for the series against England, is skipper of the three-day team.
The teams: One-day team: Denesh Ramdin (captain), Lendl Simmons (Trinidad & Tobago), Wavell Hinds, Jermaine Lawson, David Bernard Jr., Carlton Baugh Jr., Dwight Washington (Jamaica), Kurt Wilkinson,
