Taylor ready to make comeback
published: Saturday | May 8, 2004

WEST INDIES fast bowler Jerome Taylor is set to make his comeback for St. Elizabeth against Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in the fourth round of the Supreme Ventures/Super Cup today.

The 19-year-old Taylor, who broke down on the first day of the opening Test between West Indies and Zimbabwe last November, bowled reasonably well in three Carib Beer Series match for Jamaica earlier this year, but broke down.

Since then he has only played a practice match just before the Carib Beer final and a couple of games in parish competition, but is expected to return to real competitive action today.

Taylor, who burst on to the regional stage last year when he grabbed 21 wickets in six Carib Beer Series matches will be looking to impress, especially with Bangladesh already in the Caribbean for two Tests and three one-dayers.

His first-class career includes an innings haul of eight for 59 against Trinidad, which was the performance that earned him two Tests against Sri Lanka in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, Manchester host second-placed St. Catherine CC in this weekend's feature match at Kirkvine Sports Club in the parish.

Although Manchester are yet to secure their first win, this contest could be decided on first innings. Looking at both teams, Manchester may lack stars, but although they fell to highly-rated Melbourne last week, they should have put that behind them.

In-form batsmen Tamar Lambert and Renford Pinnock, Jr. should once again lead St. Catherine's batting. Both are coming off back-to-back centuries against JDF and Kingston.
