Postal changes greeted with positive reactions

THE MOUNTING of new Jamaica Post signs in front of post offices across Jamaica, has been identified, by customers, as the most visible sign that positive changes are coming for the postal service. This was the finding of an informal survey conducted in Kingston and St. Andrew recently, on behalf of the Postal Corporation of Jamaica.

Eighty-seven per cent of the respondents said that they noticed the new signs and their expectations of the postal service had been heightened by them. Fifty-six per cent said they rated the new convenience of being able to complete multiple transactions at most post offices, including the customary postal transactions, as another sign of improvement.

It is now possible to transact business with providers of courier, gaming, banking, bill payment, wireless communications and other services, at many postal services outlets across Jamaica.

Aimee Bruce is a customer of the Meadowbrook Post Office, which serves the Kingston 19 postal area. She is still unhappy about the physical appearance of the customer service area of that post office. However, she conceded that: "The customer service has improved. I am able to do my business quicker, and I am able to get more things done in less time than was the case before now."

Samuel Kerr, who uses the Western District Post Office, which serves the Kingston 20 area, was like Aimee Bruce, unhappy about the physical environment of the post office. He said: " The most obvious change is the convenience. Customers need a nicer environment in which to do their business."
