THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN OUR society former officers of the Jamaican Constabulary Force are now music promoters, some are owners of one-armed bandits, and many more front businesses all gained with drug money. We have our own Jamaican Pablo Escobars in our ghettos.
These men are 'Dons' in Jamaican parlance. Mr. Forbes must be given special mention for having the 'cojones' to be the first Commisioner to say out loud to his fellow Jamaicans that all is not well, and that these 'strategic alliances' represent a serious threat to our country - although he did not say it right out.
Let the other countries of the region take note, even if their own police comissioners sit on deaf ears and are cowards to say that this allegiance is more than a 'clear and present danger' to our stability and sovereignty. Jamaica should lead the way in arresting and convicting these narco traffickers.
Since we have seen a few men in recent times arrested, interestingly wanted in the United States but remain untouchables in Jamaica, those on the run are now turning into chameleons. Hell, if we in Jamaica can't grab them then the Americans and the British will. Let them rot in jails in other countries rather than spill what they know about politicians and the police in Jamaica and elsewhere.
These are interesting times and I hope the arrests continue and we hear more from Mr Forbes. We wait with bated breath to hear secrets already known the length and breath of our country.
I am, etc.,
