US interested in extradition of ex-nat'l footballer
published: Saturday | May 15, 2004

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE NARCOTICS Police have disclosed that the United States Government is interested in the extradition of former national footballer Christopher Gibbs, to answer to charges in that country.

However, the police have refused to state the nature of the charges for which the 33-year-old fisherman is wanted.

When contacted yesterday, Superintendent Gladstone Wright of the Narcotics Division said that no information concerning Gibbs could be made available to the media until "their work was completed".

Gibbs, who is popularly known as 'Joshie', was detained in Montego Bay, St. James on Wednesday afternoon during a joint police operation at the Esso Service Station in Ironshore.

After his arrest, he was subsequently taken to Kingston where he is being held. His detention adds to the list of men currently facing extradition to the United States, following operations by international and local narcotics agents in the island since March 2.
