EU film festival:

THE SIXTH annual EU film festival continues at the Palace Cineplex, Sovereign Centre in Liguanea, St. Andrew, up to May 21. Call British High Commission.

Festival entries

ENTRIES ARE still being accepted for the National Fine Arts and Photography competitions organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC). Entry forms are available at the JCDC head office, 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10, as well as art galleries, photo shops and parish offices islandwide. They can also be downloaded from our Website: www.jcdc.org.jm. Deadline for fine arts is May 21 (head office) and for photography, June 7.

New hours
at Bolivar

AS OF May 14, Bolivar Gallery and Bookshop will close on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m.. New opening hours are Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and on Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, during May, a stock show (art works and books) is on at the gallery.

Liguanea photo
and art festival

A PHOTOGRAPH and art festival is being organised by Liguanea Drug and Garden Centre, in association with the Gleaner Company Limited and Jamaica National Building Society, for Labour Day (May 24) at the plaza. The event will feature demonstatrations by artists in areas of photography, calligraphy, jewellery making, tye-dye, ceramics, and others. Gates open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

'Sunday Evening
at the Classics'

JAMAICA VOCAL Ensemble presents its 'Sunday Evening at the Classics' series. The first concert will be on May 23 at the University of the West Indies Chapel, Mona, starting at 6:00 p.m. On May 30, the venue will be the St. Paul's United Church, corner of King and Market streets in Montego Bay,

at the Pegasus

GALLERY PEGASUS at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston presents an exhibition by artist Andy Ballentine, scheduled to run until May 29.

WONDERLAND FINE Arts Gallery at the Redbones Blues Cafe, 21 Braemar Avenue, Kingston 10, presents 'Hallelluia', an exhibition by artist Bernard Stanley Hoyes.

Photographic competition

THE DEADLINE for entries to the Commonwealth Photographic Awards is May 30. Entries are invited from any Commonwealth citizens, who will have a chance to win 2,000 pounds sterling. In addition to the overall prize and regional prizes, there are two special awards in the 2004 competition ­ (i) the 'Young Snappers Prize' for 12-18 year olds and the (ii) Dan Eldon Prize to be awarded in the 18-30 category for anyone
who uses his/her work for social/humanitarian purposes. Winning entries will be exhibited in Central London and

JA-JA ORIGINALS Art Gallery in Negril, Westmoreland, presents 'Prophet', an exhibition by artist Albert Artwell, which continues until May 23.

'The Third Eye'
continues

'THE THIRD Eye', a solo exhibition by sculptor Christopher Irons, continues at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

Earth Day winners

AWARD-WINNING PHOTOGRAPHS in the Institute of Jamaica's 2004 Earth Day Essay and Poster competition are currently on show in the institute's exhibition hall. The display will run until the end of May.

Everald Brown
retrospective

A MAJOR exhibition dedicated to the work of the late artist, Everald Brown, is scheduled to open at the National Gallery of Jamaica in downtown Kingston on Emancipation Day, August 1, starting at 11:00 a.m.

'Curator's Eye'
continues

'CURATOR'S EYE' exhibition continues at the National Gallery of Jamaica, 12 Ocean Boulevard, Kingston Mall, in downtown Kingston, until June 19. Viewing hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Interested individuals or groups may contact the gallery at Tel: 922-1561.
