Wolfe back in Jamaica
published: Wednesday | May 19, 2004

By Raymond Graham, Freelance Writer

AFTER A four-week stint in the United Kingdom playing professional netball, G.C. Foster College second-year student Tiffany Wolfe is back in the island.

One of the youngest members of the Jamaica team at last year's World Netball tournament which was held here, 20-year-old Wolfe plied her skills for the London Hurricane team.

In an interview just after completing one of her exams at G.C. Foster, Wolfe said she was pleased with her time spent in England.

"It did not take a long time for me to adjust as the weather was great and despite playing my first practice match two days after arriving, I fitted in well," said Wolfe.

Playing alongside two England senior and three Under-21 players, the Old Harbour resident was happy she got a chance to play professional netball in a different environment.

A GOOD EXPERIENCE

"Playing there was a good experience for me as the overall competition was very challenging and very competitive and it gave me a chance also to improve on my overall game especially improving my decisions on court," she said.

It was not a very rigid schedule for Wolfe as it was training on Thursdays and matches on Saturdays and Sundays; not as hectic as she is used to training daily in Jamaica and playing matches on weekends.

The only disappointment for her was that her team failed to make the semi-finals.

"We were very unfortunate as we failed to make the semi-final on goals difference to Northern Thunder. This was a team we had beaten earlier but we lost to Bath in our final match," she said.

According to Wolfe, her teammates were very friendly towards her and treated her well and, although it was not a contractual agreement, if she gets the chance again she will not hesitate to go back.

Wolfe, who will be completing her Diploma Course in Secondary Education next year at the G.C. Foster College, is looking forward to the Caribbean and World Youth tournaments this year. She hopes she will be selected for both teams and wants to help Jamaica to win both tournaments.

Unfortunately, her fans will not get the chance to se her competing in the Senior League semi-finals which are scheduled for this weekend as her team, Windalco, was eliminated by many-time champions Waulgrovians.
