Respect life, love each other
published: Friday | May 21, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

LIFE SHOULD be respected no matter what we are going through. We should not resort to murder. What message are we giving those who murder their brothers and sisters? Human rights activists defend them and forgive them. The church portrays forgiveness through grace in Christ. So who will defend the victims? They are dead and cannot ask for forgiveness from God.

The dead are angry as their blood is not avenged. Abel's blood cried from the ground. If someone sheds blood, his blood should be shed, he should not hanged or electrocuted. I know it is a new age under the New Testament. We should forgive but how are we to send a message to the murderers? We could work them to death when found guilty.

Pastors preach that murderers can be forgiven. Human rights groups defend them but they are not humans. They continue to murder without mercy. We have to reap what we sow to stop or control some of the crime.

The film 'The Passion of Christ' has stirred up the thoughts of people hence the many debates that follow. This film is still 'The crucifixion', only more spectacular because we live in a new age of technology and people have become more curious.

Jesus is always a controversial character and will ever be. We have to keep our lamps 'trimmed' and burning (figuratively) until He returns. We won't understand everything, whether he was actually seen physically or spiritually after his death and burial. Christians believe that he came to die for the sins of the world to make a way of escape and give us hope of being better human beings. Let us give up our weapons and become a more loving and caring people. The church stands forever in spite of charges.

I am, etc.,

S. FERNANDEZ
