St Patrick's Foundation hosts award ceremony
published: Saturday | May 22, 2004

ST. PATRICK'S Foundation had its inaugural awards ceremony at the Christ The Redeemer Human Resource Centre, Seaview Gardens, St. Andrew recently to honour its employees, some of whom have as much as 20 years' service.

Some 40 members of staff and volunteers were recognised by the foundation for their contributions to the organisation since its inception 23 years ago in 1981.

INTERESTED

Dr. Henley Morgan, management consultant, who was guest speaker, said that persons interested in doing well need to shift their thinking from what they could get to what they could do.

"I am asking for a change in paradigm and a change in culture if we are to move from being ordinary to extraordinary," he said.

He stressed the need for people to take responsibility for their actions and make responsible choices in their quest to do well.

Workers received awards for five, 10 and 20 years of service to the foundation and special awards were presented to a "Teacher of the Year", "Nurse of the Year", "General Worker of the Year" and "Administrative Worker of the Year".

Miriam Bryce, a recipient of an award for more than 20 years of service and a worker at the Riverton City Meadows Human Resource Centre, was elated at her award. She said it was her love for children which had motivated her throughout her years of service. "I love the children that I work with," she said.

MOTIVATE PERSONS

Junior Rowe, another recipient of an award for 20 years of service, said it motivated more persons to give their best in the job as they could reap rewards "such as these". "I am very elated. It shows that all of our sacrifices and our labour were not in vain," he said.

For him, it was the vision of the foundation which is seeking to change the lives of residents in the inner city that has kept him focused and motivated for the last 20 years.

St. Patrick's Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation seeking to empower persons (primarily youth) of low-income communities through skills training, education and community development and care for the elderly.
