More needed, Dr Phillips
published: Wednesday | May 26, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WISH to congratulate Dr Phillips for condemning politicians and law enforcement in Parliament who associate with drug dons. I think this was courageous of him because by attending the funeral of a person suspected to be a drug don, he himself had been associated with drug dons. It is better late than never. In other words, it is better to try to do something about the compromise the politicians and law enforcement causes when they are associated with drug dons.

The concerns I have with Dr. Phillips' condemnation are what will he do to discontinue the association of politicians and law enforcements. Alternatively, is it that Dr. Phillips is just going through the normal routine that politicians go through when certain issues are in the news?

Finally, Dr. Phillips has to do more than just the usual political rhetoric. He has to take action. Expose the politicians and law enforcement that are associated with drug dons. Dr. Phillips has to take disciplinary actions to convince the electorate of Jamaica that he is serious about the association of politicians and law enforcement with drug dons.

I am, etc.,
