J'cans must speak out
published: Wednesday | May 26, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I USED to think that Jamaica was a democratic country with free speech. Yet, we are always kept quiet by the so-called movers and shakers of the day, when we try to speak out about their injustice.

I must implore the youths of the 21st century, to let their voices be heard. If you are mistreated or misinterpreted then make some noise, that is, speak about it, don't be hushed by threats or they will always have you where they want you. I notice when we are mis-represented or mistreated, we are expected to keep quiet and say nothing, but, I must say.. No more! If you are being held down, that is, prevented from standing up, then please say, 'you might be holding me down, but I am standing up inside of me.'

Make your voices heard when you are dealt with wrongly, or they will continue to mistreat and manipulate you to do their evil doings.

In closing, a word of warning to those mothers out there who try every way possible to treat other mothers' children wrongly. Please be reminded that "you" also have children at the disposal of other mothers.

I am, etc.,

RORRON CLARKE
