Poor Labour Day turnout in Mandeville
published: Wednesday | May 26, 2004

MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

THE TURNOUT for Labour Day projects in and around the town of Mandeville, Manchester, on Monday, was low-keyed when compared to two or three years ago.

Despite holding several meetings with residents, councillors and some members of the business community to make plans to effect several projects, Mayor of Mandeville Desmond Harrison got very little support.

That, however, did not dampen the spirit of president of the Lions Club of Mandeville, Bingroy Elliot, and members who turned out to paint several pedestrian crossings, including the one opposite the Mayor's parlour on Main Street.

Members of the Rotary Club of Mandeville converged on Man-chester and Wesley roads where they swept and painted a new pedestrian crossing in front of the Willow Gate Plaza.

The Mandeville Fire Brigade made its contribution by painting the pedestrian crossing at the busy entrance to the taxi park in the heart of the town, while members of the Jamaica Red Cross made it a little safer for students who must cross the New Green to Spur Tree main road intersection in front of Manchester High School.

Major sidewalk repairs were carried out at Race Course Road by the Roads and Works Division of the Manchester Parish Council.
