Better learning for better-offs
published: Thursday | May 27, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ALL THE newspapers have devoted many columns to a recent study, rating schools according to certain test scores. Though the study is logically flawed, it has managed to reach the not-so-startling conclusion that parents who can read are better able to help their children with homework and that parents who are university graduates do it still better.

Moreover, it seems beyond doubt that wealthy parents get their kids into better schools than do the bitterly poor.

Amen selah hoopla!

I am, etc.,
