CVM TELEVISION launched its 2004 Athens Olympics coverage at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel luncheon yesterday.
President of the CVM Communications Group, Dr. David McBean, said "the station was 'excited about broadcasting the Games for the Jamaican public, showcasing the full force of its prowess using free-to-air television, cable, radio and newspaper."
Dr. McBean said the television station will air a summer of events culminating with the Olympics from August 13 to 29.
CVM, he said, has already secured broadcast rights for the (IAAF) Golden League Grand Prix series and the national trials from June 25 to 27.
"We hope our pre-Olympics coverage will make the public familiar with those who are expected to do well," Dr. McBean said. In giving details on some local events leading up to the Games, vice-president for sales and marketing, Donovan White, said CVM will host launch parties starting next month at three 'popular' locations across the island.
DELAYED COVERAGE
During the Games CVM TV will provide live and delayed coverage. Extensive coverage of Jamaican and other Caribbean competitors will be provided by the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC). Other international broadcast feeds from Europe and North America will augment the local group's coverage of the Games.
CVM's main corporate partners are Cable and Wireless Mobile. Other sponsors include Grace Kennedy under its Tropicals Rhythms and Western Union brands, the National Commercial Bank and the United General Insurance Company. Among the guests at yesterday's function were Mike Fennell, president of the Jamaica Olympic Association, and Nigella Saunders, the first Jamaican badminton player to qualify for the Olympics.
Jamaica will participate in four sports at the games - track and field, swimming, badminton and shooting.
