'Good Times' was kicking
published: Monday | May 31, 2004

By Germaine Smith, Staff Reporter

IT SEEMS there is nothing left to say about the 'Heineken Good Times' parties. Based on the overwhelming support at last Saturday night's show at the Mas Camp Village, Oxford Road, New Kingston, there is no turning back for this session. You could say it has arrived, and is a solid brand name.

Mas Camp was crawling with people as they littered every square inch of the venue, leaving little room to dance, walk and, at times, even breathe. Despite these difficulties, however, even at 2:00 a.m. more people were still pouring into an already full venue.

The word about Good Times must have spread, as a significant number of guests were from the younger generation.

No matter what genre of music the tireless selectors played, no one stopped moving. From 1970s American R&B, to 1980s dancehall, to 1990s dancehall, the tunes scored.

From Michael Jackson's Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, to Shabba's Love PBad, everything was a hit. If you stop to think about it, playing at such an event really did not appear as a hard task for the selectors, because everything they played seemed to be a hit for the music-starved audience.

The gyrating mass of dancing bodies, however, generated too much heat for some patrons, who in an effort to cool down stormed the bars. These bars became literal war zones as heated, half-drunk, and howling patrons scurried to get their drinks as quickly as possible. Bar staffers were kept flustered for hours with the multiple orders and requests thrown at them from every direction.

If you considered that a limitation, it probably was the only one to a night of good vibes.
