GODFREY DYER was on Saturday returned unopposed as president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), at the organisation's 43rd annual general meeting at the Jamaica Grande Hotel, Ocho Rios.
Dyer outlined his plans to The Gleaner shortly after his re-election.
He said his first task was to meet with the island's bankers with the hope of getting them to decrease the high service charge which now accrues on credit card transactions done by JHTA members. "And I will also continue to market and promote Jamaica jointly with the Jamaica Tourist Board."
On credit cards, he said 'the percentage ranges from two-and-a-half to four per cent for process.'
He said the banks charged other organisations much less than it charged his members, but he did not name the organisations.
Dyer owns the Wexford Court Hotel in Montego Bay, St. James.
His JHTA team includes first vice-president Horace Peterkin, general manager, Sandals Montego Bay; second vice-presi-dent Kevin Hendrickson, managing director of The Courtleigh Hotel; third vice-president, Michael Darby, general manager of Sandals Ocho Rios and Judy Schoenbein of Appleton Rum Tours, the lone female in the midst, fourth vice-president.
The JHTA, which has more than 300 members representing the island's hotels, attractions, ground-handlers, car rental agencies and purveyors.
