Haitians should go
published: Wednesday | June 2, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IAM 100 per cent with the people of Portland who believe the Haitians should go and if there is a demonstration I would join it. People in the country are in need of common commodities and cannot afford them and if you should ask for assistance from an MP or any government ministers they are so occupied that not even a reply they would give you. Look at the amount of salary and benefits that they get yet they say that employers should only give single digit increases to workers.

I join the list of those who will never ever vote again and I am sure there are others like me. I need assistance with my NHT mortgage because my husband was made redundant and the arrears are now over $200,000. I ask for assistance and not even a reply.

I will join the opposition by saying this Government is for the rich, while the poor starve and die. I am sure this is not what the majority of socialists were expecting from P.J. Patterson. People in severe difficulty don't always want to call media houses to come to put their life story on air. But many of us are stretched to the limit and only can contemplate suicide because we are hurting so bad and there is no way out. People who are not in any situation can say, have hope, have faith because they have never been there. $36 million spent on refugees, I only need $1,253 to pay off my NHT mortgage. Will any of the MPs assist me? Only private sector is doing anything to help with schools, stations, hospitals, infirmary, etc. and all the Government does is fix highways and resurface Kingston like Kingston is Jamaica.

This is rainy season and watch how many roads will be flooded because some roads have not been maintained for years.

I am, etc.,

B.E.

Linstead

St. Catherine
