Teach the public self-respect
published: Thursday | June 3, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I THINK a girl who respects herself will not allow a man to use her, but will wait until she finds the man who respects and means her good. But these days, love is not too popular anymore, yet sex is and it is taken by many as the norm.

Too many young people are having children. Some mothers are too young to care enough for the children they have brought in the world. But let us challenge the fathers how much older are these folks that give these little girls babies?

A girl of 16 is just ready to take school work seriously, yet girls of her age or younger could be pregnant for a man who is at the age of which he should guide her and counsel her on becoming a woman. He should maintain his stewardship he should be the pacesetter, a role model for young people.

I think there should be public education, not only for young people on this topic, but for older folks and everyone, as the situation is getting out of hand.

I am, etc.,

MINNA A. ATKINS-DAVIS
