MEMBERS Of the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID) in downtown Kingston yesterday heaped praises on the effectiveness of the recently installed X-ray machines at the ports which helped them to detect a collection of guns and ammunition on Thursday.
The seven high-powered guns and over 300 assorted rounds of ammunition from the find were on display at OCID's offices yesterday. Among the confiscated weapons were three AK47 rifles and a .30 calibre rifle. Other weapons in the find were a semi-automatic hi-point handgun and a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
A spokesman for the OCID explained that the guns and ammunition were discovered by authorities in two refrigerators being shipped from the United States. The guns were found during a joint operation between the OCID staff and members of the Contraband Enforcement Team.
