By Teino Evans, Staff ReporterSISTER SCULLY and Joan Flemmings stirred up some spirited dancing and singing at 'Gospel Fiesta 2004' on Saturday at the Cumberland High School, Portmore, St Catherine.
Despite starting more than an hour late, when the concert finally got under way, there was no looking back as MC Markland Edwards of Mega Jams FM kept things flowing.
Roxanne Jackson, a student of the Cumberland High School opened the show with a solo act entitled When It Rains. The teenager's powerful voice had a huge impact on the members of the audience as they were led to sing along with her, word for word.
Other talented performers would set the stage for the main acts to come, among them the school's choir. If the parents in the audience had been anxious as their children sang their nerves were soon settled as the school choir gave an awesome performance.
Andre, a youngster who has toured with Father Ho Long, also exposed his talent for singing. Before he could sing a note however, a young lady sitting to the back of the audience shouted proudly, "a my cousin dat!". Andre sang I Just Can't Give Up Now by Mary Mary.
The Wings Of Eagle Dancers (from the Miracle Open Bible Church) added a touch of variety as they danced to the sound of Papa San's Jesus My Saviour. The dancers, however, may have had a little too much energy on stage, as they accidentally tore down the main banner, advertising the event and its sponsors.
At 11:15 p.m., it was time for Sister Scully to take the stage. She entered the stage amidst loud cheers from the audience who were only too anxious to hear her perform. She immediately got down to business, doing songs like Don't you trouble Zion and Roll Back The Curtain.
As Sister Scully performed several persons stood with arms lifted up, as if they had fallen into deep meditation. She closed her set by doing the crowd favourite Hurry up. At this point, patrons were jumping, singing and clapping and as Sister Scully made her way off stage she sang I Am Going Home On The Morning Train.
For most patrons who remained until the show's end, it would really be the morning train that they would have to take home.
By the time Joan Flemmings took the stage, it was 11:45 p.m., and she had the honours of closing the show with a 'spirit-filled' and energetic performance.
Flemmings immediately got settled into her performance after entering the stage as she kicked off her high heel shoes and got to work.
One thing that was clear was that all who attended Gospel Fiesta 2004, enjoyed themselves.
As some patrons marched out of the venue, they were given the 'left-right' orders by Joan Flemmings as she rounded off her set singing Christian Soldiers.
