THE EDITOR, Sir:
I SINCERELY hope you will grant me the privilege of voicing my appreciation and dissatisfaction of incidents that happened to me during my recent trip to Jamaica
Dissatisfaction: The bridge on Spanish Town Road at Berger Paints has just cost me $80,000 for repairs to my pickup. Travelling west at about 8.00 p.m. I ran into a steel girder with a block of concrete attached which was placed across the bridge. I called the police to report the accident and when they arrived, I was asked if I did not see the detour sign to which I answered 'What sign?'
The officer then proceeded to retrieve a sign which was now tossed in a heap of marl by the side of the road. He then in somewhat an apologetic manner explained that it may have been removed by criminals wishing to experience exactly what had happened to me, resulting in robbing the victim. I have since learnt that this bridge has been out for close to two years and that there have been numerous accidents as a result. What is the Government doing about this situation?
Appreciation: Although the vehicle could be driven, I had decided to leave it and in the morning get a tow truck to take it home to which he (the policeman) indicated: NO WAY. He drove in front of me and allowed me to leave the pickup at the Seaview police station until the next day. This is a personal thanks to Corporal White of the Hunts Bay police and Constable Bryan (7941) of the Seaview police for the assistance the provided me in this accident.
There are still good policemen in the force, and I would like to highlight these two gentlemen as such. The security guards at the Berger plant were so helpful to me it's unbelievable. My thanks to them also.
I am, etc.,
VINCENT A WHITE
