Need more growth funds
published: Tuesday | June 8, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE MANAGING Director of Scotia Bank Jamaica, Mr. Bill Clarke, has announced the launch of a $1 billion fund dubbed the 'Scotia Jamaica Production Fund'.

Recently an idea to boost the productive sector in Jamaica for which borrowers will be required to provide a proper business plan, an idea which was I believe unthinkable 20 or so years ago.

Why? Jamaica never had so many educated young people as today. Mr. Clarke claims the primary objective of the programme is to assist small/medium-sized enterprises.

There are brilliant-minded people in Jamaica who need many more organisations like Scotia Bank which are willing to give and encourage sustainable growth in today's Jamaica.

I am, etc.,

BALDWIN COLLINS

St. Elizabeth
