Allow the competition to progress
published: Tuesday | June 8, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN RECENT weeks, I have read the disingenuous comments of individuals who seem to be perturbed by the Digicel-sponsored 'Rising Stars' competition. Watching the competition up to its current status, one must admit, we do have talented individuals, as some of the previously presented acts have been quite hilarious.

The competition is still in its early stages, and the best is yet to come. Many young people in this country do not have the chance to become who they want to be, so they turn to drugs, crime and other unlawful activities to better themselves. As you watch the remaining stages of the competition, think to yourself of those who would have become-only God knows what had the competition not been born.

Though these contestants may not have further advanced in the event, at least their talent has been exposed. Many may not win a Grammy, in the future, but they may be called upon to perform, because they were bold enough to climb the step that some are afraid or just lazy to climb.

I would like to suggest to those headless individuals who are trying to back down on the competition to back off! Allow the competition to progress before you 'gash a fire'.

I am, etc.,

JHANELLE WRIGHT
