JAMAICA'S MARINE transport infrastructure has received high praises from international giant ChevronTexaco top executive, Andrew Tong, who was speaking at the recent commissioning of the Alliance between Petrojam and Fuel and Marine Marketing LLC (FAMM), a ChevronTexaco company). Mr. Tong, FAMM's Vice President Residual Fuels -Americas, lauded Jamaica's development of its maritime facilities, noting that "the development of the container handling business clearly marks Jamaica as a key transhipment location for international trade" He said this made Jamaica attractive to FAMM as a location to develop its business".
INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED
"Our alliance is seeking to make Kingston an internationally recognised bunkering port, and accordingly is focusing on an increase in bunker sales volumes," the Chevron Executive pointed out.
The Petrojam-FAMM Alliance, established a year ago, has been providing bunkering and marine marketing services to ocean going vessels in the Port of Kingston, through a combined barge and tugboat unit. It was officially commissioned at a ceremony at the HMJS Cagway in Port Royal, the Headquarters of the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard. Mr. Tong said bunkering of vessels visiting or passing by Jamaica was only one part of ChevronTexaco's business interests in the country. In addition to Texaco's involvement and strong brand presence in the retail, aviation, industrial and commercial segments of Jamaica's petroleum market, he pointed out, ChevronTexaco enjoys a long term business relationship with Jamaica's national carrier Air Jamaica.
