More focus for disabled persons
published: Monday | June 14, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MORE FOCUS is needed for persons with disabilities in Jamaica. Efforts to promote disability issues, rehabilitation and prevention by Government have not been seen.

Government needs to work on the development and implementation of programmes by way of research, policy, discussion, legislation and decentralisation.

Preferably from the national to local levels. And assistance to developing non-governmental organisations (NGO), to help the 260,000 (10 per cent) of Jamaica's general population living with disabilities and growing, and take in the impact of their affected families in account.

I am, etc.,

FOUNDER/DIRECTOR
