Digicel invests a further US$20m in its GSM network
published: Wednesday | June 16, 2004

MOBILE TELEPHONE company Digicel is to make a further investment of US$20 million in its GSM network taking its total spend to date on its Jamaican network to US$400 million.

Speaking to Wednesday Bushiness last night, Digicel's (Jamaica) Chief Executive Officer David Hall said: " In both April and May we saw a strong surge in sales mainly as a result of our loyalty programme, which gives customers $100 of free talk time and now we have to bolster our network. We have now broken the one million customer mark and by the end of may we expect to have 1.1 million customers."

Digicel is taking on additional staff (it currently has 614) to deal with the high volume of customers and has hired a floor in the Dyoll building in New Kingston for that express purpose.

"All the money we make goes straight back into the business," said Mr. Hall.
