Education a priority to JLP
published: Wednesday | June 16, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I CANNOT see why the finding of Dr. Dennis Minnott's survey that ranked high schools based on their own performance as it relates to CXC passes, should come as a surprise to anyone, especially those who are involved directly in the educational system.

The Leader of the Opposition Edward Seaga has been stating his concern constantly to the nation of the low level of passes, especially in maths, English and science that high school students are achieving and suggested that one way to solve the problem is by allowing these students to stay on an extra year in school. In addition to all of this the Opposition Spokesman on Education, Senator Anthony Johnson, was seen also making comments that point to problems that exist in the educational system.

It should not go unnoticed that Edward Seaga, leader of the JLP, Dr. Dennis Minnott, JLP caretaker for East Portland and Senator Anthony Johnson, JLP spokesman on education are all demonstrating to the nation their personal and their party interest in education, which to me means that under a JLP Government, education is a priority.

I am, etc.,
