MoU Not to be trusted

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HAVE been following the arguments for and against the Memorandun of Understanding (MOU). I am one who is against it as this Government is not one which can be trusted to keep inflation at or under three per cent. A good example is the announcement of a rate adjustment given by the OUR on the electricity rates. I still cannot understand the arguments that have been always given to justify these adjustments. This is a company which has the luxury of calculating the cost of the electricity at the prevailing rate of exchange as also other clauses which they use but no one has and can justify to us why we must absorb another increase. I know that the MOU was not taken into consideration when the increase was granted.
Another point to note even though it is blamed on external forces is that all signatories to the MOU have to pay the high cost of petrol prices. This Government is unconscionable owing to the fact that they have always been asking us the working class to hold strain while they are not holding strain. We have been holding strain because the cost of oil has a domino effect on everything. Just take a look at the supermarket prices on a weekly basis. It will give a clear indication of moving prices.
This Government must get their priorities right. You cannot be paying people starvation wages and expect the best performance from them.
I am, etc.,
