Two executed in Craig Town
published: Saturday | June 19, 2004

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

DESPITE THE heavy presence of the security forces in the troubled communities of south St. Andrew since Tuesday, the guns continued to bark, claiming two lives yesterday.

Dead are 26-year-old Marlon Allen, alias 'Tanso' of a Pouyatt Street address in Kingston and a man known only as 'Footalee' of a Port Royal address in eastern Kingston.

Reports reaching The Gleaner are that the shooting was not one of the regular encounters between rival gunmen or a clash with members of the security forces. It was a case of 'jungle justice' in which the community dons gave instructions for the men to be executed.

This was after they were 'tried and found guilty' by an informal judicial system a 'kangaroo court' set up at the community level. It is alleged that the deceased were among a group of four men who held up and robbed a delivery truck in the Craig Town area of the constituency on Wednesday.

According to the police, the robbers escaped with more than $100,000 in cash.

It is alleged that the matter was brought to the attention of the community dons who requested that the men return both cash and goods. Following their refusal, the alleged robbers were reportedly cornered in a yard on Pouyatt Street, where they were executed.

Reports are that 'Footalee', a dropout from one of Kingston's prominent high schools, was shot at least eight times. The police said they recovered more than two dozen spent shells from the crime scene.

An informed source told The Gleaner the area dons are now looking for the other two men who were involved in the robbery.
