On the Minott report

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM entering the debate on the Minott report from a very personally-held perspective, that of the zoning of schools.
I do so from a specific base, that of the need to address a real social decline in family life; community responsibility; community reliance on a school; time spent travelling by children, parents and teachers; need to relate size of schools to community zones.
Indeed, I noted in a Gleaner report, Dr. Minott's comments that "travelling was impacting negatively on student performance". Despite all efforts and offers to have May Pen be a pilot project for the zoning of schools, it has all fallen on deaf ears.
I still stand by the need to test and implement this and overcome the socially selfish rejection created by what Dr. Minott's report now exposes "schools with false perceptions".
I am, etc.,
