Turf war between NWA and KSAC.
published: Tuesday | June 22, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WRITE relating to your story on page three in your edition of Thursday last, pertaining to the alleged removal of signs by the NWA which had supposedly been erected with the prior knowledge and approval of the KSAC. It is indeed unfortunate that companies such as ours, who had followed what we thought were the proper procedures in getting approval for these signs (from the entity which claimed to be authorised to do so) and had consistently paid what dues were demanded of us, are getting caught in the middle of what appears to be nothing more than a turf war between the NWA and the KSAC.

What is especially of concern to me however is that, up until now, no one from the NWA has had the decency to confirm that they have in fact removed these signs and their reasons for having done so, not to mention the courtesy of possibly advising us that they intended to do so prior to simply destroying these signs and leaving many of them strewn on the roadside.

Regardless of who the Court rules is the duly constituted authority in charge of these roads and therefore from whom permission to erect such signs should be sought, Mr. Palmer and his colleagues should be reminded that they are paid by us - the taxpayers - and that they represent a Government body and should govern themselves accordingly.

It is indeed amazing that having been granted approval by one government body (the KSAC), another government body (the NWA) could behave in such a highhanded and disgraceful manner, treating us law-abiding citizens like common criminals.

I am, etc.,

JOHN P. AZAR
