published: Tuesday | June 22, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON THURSDAY, July 17, 2004 the Senator Norman Horne Foundation, under the theme, 'Technology for all', launched the first segment of a number of monumental projects for South East St. Elizabeth.

The foundation under the leadership of Senator Horne embarked upon a project, which will be emphasising the importance of computer technology to Early Childhood Education. Senator Horne said his vision is to equip all Basic Schools in South East St. Elizabeth with at least one computer.

Cheapside Basic School was the first recipient of a computer from the foundation, in an event which saw performances from the Cheapside Basic School and other neighbouring Basic Schools, namely First Step Basic, Gazeland/Steven Run Basic and the St. Mary's Early Childhood Basic Schools. These schools received cellular phones to be given to a student who shows excellent in discipline and academics.

The former Deputy Mayor of Black River Donald Horne a political representative for 42 years was presented with a plaque in recognition for his outstanding service in assisting the Cheapside Basic School to be adopted by the Ministry of Education.

I am, etc.,
