Mega Mart music a turn-off
published: Tuesday | June 22, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WISH to fully support the complaint made by a writer to your newspaper last Friday, complaining about the noise from sound systems along Red Hills Road.

I live in Portmore and it seems that since we became a municipality, the problem has worsened. We not only have night noises to contend with, but there are people in every community who play their home stereos at full blast all day as if they are providing a service to the community.

Then there are those disgusting 'mobile sound systems', a.k.a. cars, and quite frankly I think that car stereo competitions should be banned. They are absolutely ridiculous! There are stores which also feel that they must blast music at the patrons, including Megamart in Portmore, and this is a great turn-off to many shoppers.

Then there are the churches which feel that effective 7:00 a.m. every Sunday, they must be heard by all within a 1 km. radius; this is also unacceptable. People must show more consideration for their neighbours. That is the bottom line. Everyone is entitled to peace and quiet in their personal space, if that is what they want.

I am, etc.,

K. BERNARD

Portmore
