Marine credit union AGM a success
published: Tuesday | June 22, 2004

THE MARINE and Allied Industries Co-operative Credit Union (MAICCU) Limited recently held its 11th Annual General Meeting and has dubbed it a resounding success, with record attendance from members for the second consecutive year.

MAICCU currently has a membership of 1,861 persons comprising mainly workers in the shipping industry and their families. The credit union has seen steady growth during its years of existence, having forged effective relationships with its members and introduced several new policies, products and improved levels of service. At the meeting, which took place at the Shipping Association of Jamaica's Sports Complex in Newport West, it was reported that the total asset base of the credit union had grown significantly over the past few years. It was indicated further that in spite of stiff competition from the commercial banking sector MAICCU was still able to hold its own.

"Our AGM was a tremendous success. The turnout of members was exceptional and is an indication that more and more persons are taking keen interests in their finances and particularly the business of the credit union. We really want to commend the members for their support," said Juliet Shim, the manager.

Additionally, Ms. Shim said the credit union was also pleased with level of sponsorship from the hotel and hospitality sector, which provided the main the prizes that were available at the meeting. She expressed special thanks to the Half Moon Hotel Golf Tennis & Beach Resort; Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club; Royal Plantation Spa & Golf Resort and the Hilton Kingston Jamaica.

She also acknowledged the contribution of companies in the maritime sector and others, which supported the publication of the credit union's 2003 annual report.
