Police disarm George Phang
published: Wednesday | June 23, 2004

POPULAR COMMUNITY leader George 'Pepper' Phang and another man known as 'Mempo' were disarmed yesterday by the police, who have seized their licensed guns, pending further investigation.

The men were held and taken into custody for questioning in connection with the ongoing gang feud between rival factions in the Arnett Gardens/Jones Town area of south St. Andrew. Phang was later released without any charge.

On Monday, Horace Murphy, alias 'Ram Johnny', was taken into custody and his licensed firearm also seized by the police. He was eventually charged with the illegal possession of ammunition.

Contacted last night, Deputy Superintendent Delroy Hewitt confirmed that Phang and 'Mempo' were taken into custody. Phang's two licensed firearms were seized. Up to press time last night, 'Mempo' was still being questioned.
